Cutlite Penta has always supported the idea of a development with low environmental impact, focusing on reducing energy consumption and on efficient use of resources. The fiber laser itself is a technology that optimizes performance with very low consumption and waste reduction compared to other metal cutting systems.
However, the commitment to be a sustainable company has resulted in even more significant actions that in 2023/2024 saw the realization of two important projects:
- The installation of a photovoltaic system
- The birth of Cutlite Penta Forest in collaboration with Treedom
Let’s see how these projects will help us achieve the goal of being a completely zero-impact company, thanks also to Treedom and all our customers.
The Photovoltaic System that Reduces Emissions
The production of cutting-edge technologies requires considerable amounts of energy that affect CO2 emissions into the environment. To produce a single kilowatt-hour of electricity, about 2.56 kWh are burned in the form of fossil fuels with an emission of about 0.53 kg of carbon dioxide into the air. Cutlite Penta’s total annual consumption is about 1,000,000 kWh, equivalent to 565,732.07 kg of CO2. How could we reduce these emissions?
The first step taken was to equip the company with a photovoltaic system to produce renewable energy and reduce emissions. With a power of 355 kW and an annual energy production of about 332,470 kWh, our photovoltaic system allows us to reduce about 176,200 kg of CO2 every year.
Result:
565,732 (Cutlite Penta emissions) – 176,200 (reduced emissions) = 389,532.07 kg of CO2
This represented the first step towards reducing environmental impact and choosing renewable energies that has paved the way for the pursuit of zero impact. Having traced the right direction, we evaluated solutions to actually achieve a complete reduction of emissions.
Partner of Treedom for Zero-Impact Production
The answer to achieving zero impact was the birth of the Cutlite Penta Forest. In collaboration with Treedom, the Italian company that finances agroforestry projects and promotes tree planting in the territory, we will plant 1000 trees in 2024. Tree planting brings several benefits to the environment, economy, and people. Among these:
- Improvement of water and air quality
- An increase in soil fertility that counteracts desertification
- Greater protection from extreme weather events
- Protection and enrichment of the territory’s biodiversity
- Multiplication and diversification of farmers’ income
- Availability of small quantities of useful timber, thanks to pruning
But above all, planting trees decisively reduces CO2 emissions. A single tree can absorb 40 kg of CO2 annually: the 1000 trees in our forest will therefore reduce 40,000 kg/year of carbon dioxide.
389,532.07 (remaining emissions) – 40,000 (emissions reduced by 1000 trees) = 349,532.07 kg of CO2
It’s a result that makes us proud but only the beginning of the goal that awaits us: planting 10,000 trees to reduce 400,000 kg of CO2 and truly achieve zero impact in our production!
We are committed to reach this goal as soon as possible and we will dedicate to it the same commitment we put into every challenge. Because the future we want to build is the result of the actions we take today.
A special thanks to Treedom and all our customers who help us in this mission and accompany us on the path towards a sustainable business that respects the environment!
